CONFLICT RESOLUTION EXPERIENCE
In his 16 years on the Los Angeles Superior Court, Judge Shimer was an extraordinary settler of complex, and often high-profile, disputes. Among the more publicized cases he has handled were those involving the Southern Pacific Railroad, actor Gary Coleman, and probate estates of Nicole Brown Simpson and Jose and Kitty Menendez.
Beginning his career as a commercial and transactional practitioner, Judge Shimer litigated real estate and real property security matters as well as zoning, construction defect, labor and antitrust disputes for major corporations.
Judge Shimer has renowned settlement abilities and has handled numerous disputes principally in complicated matters either by assignment or at the request of attorneys. Appointed Chairman of the Court’s Judicial Arbitration Committee, Shimer presided over the management of 20,000 cases and authored the still-official Judicial Arbitration Handbook. He has also lectured, taught and written on numerous topics related to mediation, arbitration and discovery.
