CONFLICT RESOLUTION EXPERIENCE
Commissioner Castner has spent nearly four decades in the legal community. He served on the Superior Court in Long Beach from 1991-2002. He was in private civil law practice from 1981 to 1991 and held a number of positions in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office from 1970-1981.
Commissioner Castner’s friendly, low-key approach puts the parties and lawyers at ease, allowing them to focus their energies on the settlement process in a more cooperative and safe environment. His strong work ethic means that he will not give up on a case until all potential avenues of agreement are carefully explored.
As a discovery referee, Commissioner Castner reduces the tension level in the deposition room and rules on objections fairly and thoughtfully, thereby saving both sides time and money appearing ex-parte on motions to compel. He employs the same approach to written discovery disputes, allowing the parties access to appropriate information that is necessary to evaluate and, hopefully, settle their cases.
