One of Southern California’s most respected and well-known Family Law experts, Judge Richard Denner was named a Daily Journal Top Neutral in 2007. After leaving the bench in 2006 after 30 years, Judge Denner has quickly become the “go-to” mediator in complex, multi-million-dollar Family Law disputes. His knowledge of accounting, pension and retirement benefits also put him in high demand as a judge pro-tem and discovery referee.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION EXPERIENCE

Judge Richard Denner spent nearly three decades assigned to Family Law cases on the Los Angeles Superior Court bench, including 20 years as a judge and nine years as a commissioner. He served as Presiding Judge of the Family Law courts from 1993-94.

Judge Denner has presided over numerous high-profile and landmark cases, including the Rossi lottery ticket divorce trial and In re Marriage of Iredale and Cates III, in which he set the standard of goodwill calculation for the wife of a partner of a large firm. Both of these decisions were upheld on appeal.

Judge Denner has a reputation for being extremely knowledgeable about Family Law issues. He is known to be scholarly, well-informed and well-prepared. Attorneys say he is analytical and decisive. He was a member of the CJER Family Law education committee for six years and is a frequent panelist and contributor to Family Law seminars and publications. He served as an adjunct professor of law at Whittier College School of Law from 1985-89. Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Denner was in private practice and worked as a Deputy Public Defender for Los Angeles County.
