Hon. Jeffery P. Castner, Ret.
After more than 30 years in the legal community, Commissioner Jeff Castner has retired from the Los Angeles Superior Court to devote his full attention to mediation and private judging matters for ARC. Using his broad judicial experience, Pepperdine mediation training, and extensive experience as a civil trial lawyer representing both plaintiffs and defendants, Commissioner Castner is known for his ability to resolve difficult cases.

Commissioner Castner’s friendly, low-key approach puts the parties and lawyers at ease, allowing them to focus their energies on the settlement process in a more cooperative and safe environment. His strong work ethic means that he will not give up on a case until all potential avenues of agreement are carefully explored.

As a discovery referee, Commissioner Castner reduces the tension level in the deposition room and rules on objections fairly and thoughtfully, thereby saving both sides time and money appearing ex-parte on motions to compel. He employs the same approach to written discovery disputes, allowing the parties access to appropriate information that is necessary to evaluate and, hopefully, settle their cases.
