| Judge Gene Porter, who retired from the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada in 2003, now adds private judging to a unique and storied career that has spanned the legal and political spectrum. Judge Porter has more than 20 years of experience in handling civil litigation. He will specialize in resolving construction defects cases and other complex matters.
During eight years on the bench, Judge Porter served as Chief Judge for two terms and presided over civil motion calendars, jury trials and settlement conferences. He also founded the first Business Court in Nevada dealing exclusively with business litigation. Before he was appointed to the bench, Judge Porter was elected to four terms on the Nevada State Assembly (1986-1994), where he served as Majority Leader and Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Judge Porter was in private practice with a number of Las Vegas law firms from 1981-1995, specializing in general civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury, civil and corporate litigation, and administrative law. Judge Porter is currently a partner at Schimmel & Porter, a law firm with offices in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, where he handles complex litigation and governmental affairs.
