Hon. James L. Wright, Ret.
A judge for 17 years, Judge James Wright is very well-known and highly regarded. His great people skills, flexibility and dedication to community service make him a natural as a mediator, arbitrator and discovery referee. Judge Wright served most recently on the Los Angeles Superior Court as Civil Supervising Judge of the South Division in Long Beach. Judge Wright’s assignments on the bench included law & motion, probate, and general and limited jurisdiction civil trials, where he became well-versed at resolving a wide range of complex issues.

Before he was appointed to the Superior Court, Judge Wright served on the Long Beach Municipal Court, where he was Presiding Judge for four years. He was in private practice as a partner with Stump, Garner & Wright from 1972-1987. Prior to that, Judge Wright held positions in the Superior Court as the Acting Chief and Assistant Chief of the District, as well as Superior Court Clerk.

Judge Wright was named Long Beach Bar Association Judge of the Year in 1990 and Pacific Coast Alumnus of the Year in 2003. An active member of the legal community during his entire career, Judge Wright established the Domestic Violence Court in Long Beach in 1991 and has chaired and served on numerous court committees.
